knicks, marbury, new york, stephonUnhappy with his duties as a non-scoring playmaker, Stephon Marbury might not have to endure much more of his role, or the Knicks’ woeful season, for that matter. In a stunning but not a totally surprising development, Marbury said Monday that he will opt to have surgery immediately on his left ankle if he is found to have bone spurs, which could sideline him for the remainder of the season.

Dr. William Hamilton found inflammation around a chronically fractured bone spur, according to a team official. Marbury will be in a walking boot to rest his ankle before getting an MRI on Thursday.
