Garbajosa had surgery last season but in the summer, team physicians recommended more surgery. Instead, Garbajosa took the advice of Spanish national team physicians who suggested that rehabilitation would work as well as surgery. So he went the rehab route (after the Spanish federation took out a $1 million insurance policy on the leg) and played at the European championships, which just happened to be held in his home country of Spain. However, the one glitch, which is a rather major glitch, was that a prominent specialist, Dr. Mark Myerson, last week concurred with the recommendation by Raptors team doctors that Garbajosa requires further surgery, meaning that the rehab certainly did not do the trick.

Garbajosa is anxious, of course, to get the surgery over with, so he can return to action as soon as possible, though the feeling is that he is probably out for the season, no matter what.
